Fog Lake
Fog Lake is the lo-fi music project of Canadian singer-songwriter Aaron Powell. Powell began writing/recording songs for the project during his adolescent years in Glovertown where he was raised in early 2012, but the project is now based out of St. John's, Newfoundland. In 2014, Powell signed to Orchid Tapes, which he remains signed to today. Powell's recordings have been described as "a complex collage of nebulous angst and heartfelt nostalgia".〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Fog Lake – Victoria Park )〕 Fog Lake's most recent release entitled ''"Victoria Park"'' was released 30 June 2015. on both cassette (via Orchid Tapes) as well for free digitally via bandcamp. ==History== Powell began working in the lo-fi genre during his teenage years in Glovertown. The project began as ambient experiments, sampling and covers to "highly introspective, original recordings"〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=INTERVIEW WITH FOG LAKE )〕 which Powell has self-described as "downer-pop". The project became a part of a lo-fi resurgence that labels such as Birdtapes and Orchid Tapes helped bring about in the early/mid-2010's, along with acts such as Teen Suicide, Alex G, Foxes in Fiction and Coma Cinema. Powell's music is crafted in a DIY format on cheap equipment with little to no budget. Fog Lake's debut record ''"There's a Spirit, There's a Soul"'' received some attention from music blogs and websites. Powell then recorded his first EP ''"Inference III"'' "entirely in one night, a few days after dropping out of art school", in June 2012.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=inference iii – Fog Lake )〕 but the project found a following after the release of Fog Lake's follow up album, ''Farther Reaches'', released in January 2013. The title-track of the record ''"Farther Reaches"'' was posted to a popular YouTube channel, Majestic Casual. The video quickly gathered over 300,000 hits. Powell released his second EP ''"Holy Cross"'' months later in June 2013 through the now defunct label Birdtapes. A video for the song ''"Everyone I Love Is Dead"'' was directed by music video director Tyler T Williams. Powell followed up "Farther Reaches" in February 2014 with his third full-length record, ''"Virgo Indigo"'', which received coverage from websites such as The Fader and No Fear of Pop. The album garnered modest success for Powell, as it was the first album to be released with Warren Hildebrand's label Orchid Tapes. Powell (vocals, guitar) as of recent has been playing with a live band consisting of Jen King (bass), Kenney Purchase (synth), and Cory Linehan (drums). Purchase provided synth work on "Victoria Park". Derek Ashley, Aaron McLoughlin, Mitchell Dyke and Brandon Parsley have also been contributors to Fog Lake's live act.
